Mariesa contacted me after an earlier handyman had “botched” the installation of her new Hills folding clothesline which meant that she was having great difficulty in getting her and her elderly mother’s washing dry. She did try to contact the original installer, but they were not answering their phone – typical of bad operators.
So, I stepped in at short notice to get her out of this difficult situation. The first thing I did was to read through the instructions and parts list to make sure I had all the bits I needed and that I would install them in the correct order.
I mounted the wall brackets onto the wall using wall anchors, ensuring that they were perpendicular with a spirit-level, as this would make sure the washing line would fold correctly. Once the wall anchors were tightened it was on to assembling the frame, making sure to add the line grip device first.
The frame arms were slotted over the left and right hinges and secured with the supplied Chicago bolts. The right-hand arm also needs to have the line tensioner mechanism added before securing with the Chicago bolts.
Once everything was tight and working smoothly it was time to thread the line according to the instructions. Once this was done, I could turn the tensioner knob and get proper tension on the whole line.
The whole job was completed in under an hour and Mariesa was thrilled and relieved with the results.
