Mariesa had two decorative screens that used to hang inside her ‘old’ house. She wanted to repurpose them and hang them on the front wall of her new house. The screens originally hung freely on brackets but now they were to be situated outside she was concerned that they would get stolen because they could just be lifted off the original brackets. The also used standoffs that meant the back of the screen was set away from the wall.
I proposed that we do away with the original fittings, there was one missing anyway, and that I use the holes in the screens and long masonry anchors that would go through the standoffs and hold them to the wall. As this would be a permanent fitting it would deter would be thieves.
First thing to do was calculate the length of the anchors I needed. The standoffs were 50mm high, so I went for 150mm anchors. A quick trip to the local Bunnings and I was back on site with 8 wall anchors, one for each corner.
The screens used ‘rivnuts’ to hold the original fittings, so I removed all those which left a nice hole for the new fixings. Once I had confirmed the placement of the screens with Mariesa I drilled the 4 holes for the first screen and hammered in the anchor plugs. It was now just a matter of screwing the anchor bolts in with a socket wrench.
The process was repeated for the second screen. Problem solved and another good job done and needless to say that Mariesa was very happy, see below.
